Sports & Recreation

Whether you want to exercise for your own enjoyment and physical fitness, participate in competitive sports or watch top student athletes compete, there are plenty of programs at UC Irvine to meet your needs.

UC Irvine's Recreation Program offers reasonably priced classes in activities ranging from tennis and swimming to exercise conditioning and team sports. In addition, the university’s ideal location gives students a multitude of recreational activities from which to choose. UC Irvine’s proximity to spectacular mountains and stunning beaches enables students to ski, hike, sail and surf year-round.

UC Irvine also has a strong and varied Intercollegiate Athletics Program. The university is a member of NCAA Division I and competes in the Big West Conference and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Anteaters have won numerous national team championships in various sports, and many of our students have been honored as Big West Conference Scholar-Athletes. Sports include men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, water polo, golf and crew. On-campus sports facilities include the Bren Events Center (basketball), Crawford Gym (volleyball), Anteater Stadium (track and soccer), the Tennis Stadium and the Aquatics Complex.
